While Mark Zuckerberg speaks about not wanting Facebook to be the arbiter of truth, his company is setting up deals to release its dedicated news tab, the Wall Street Journal notes. In a post earlier this year, the CEO said
"It's important to me that we help people get trustworthy news and find solutions that help journalists around the world do their important work."
Apparently this is in the form of a new section that includes man-made Top News headlines (along with algorithmically sorted articles from ' converted publishers ' including those from the WSJ parent news agencies, the Buzzfeed News, the Washington Post and others).
Facebook's recent troubles and lack of confidence in the company have pitched its crypto-money libra project, but it should be helped by charging publishers to complete a news section which will compete with the recently-read news site from Apple.
